This Broadway season's new additions to The Broadway Collection received a grand total of 57 nominations in the 78th annual Antoinette (Tony) Perry Awards.
The Tony Awards, which will be hosted by Wicked star Cynthia Erivo, recognize theatre professionals for their impressive achievements on stage and are set to air June 8, 2025. Among the nominees includes Audra McDonald with her 11th nomination for Lead Actress in a Musical for Gypsy, breaking the record for most nominations by any performer. Tying with ten nominations, Buena Vista Social Club, Death Becomes Her, and Maybe Happy Ending lead the nominees.
Taking its inspiration from Wim Wenders' 1999 documentary on the making of the album of the same name, Buena Vista Social Club tells the true story of musicians navigating the Cuban Revolution. Death Becomes Her brings the cult classic 1992 film to life, following the best of frenemies, actres Madeline Ashton and author Helen Sharp and their eternal grudge. Maybe Happy Ending marks Darren Criss's return to Broadway as he stars in the new romantic musical comedy about two robots' surprising and charming adventure.
Just in Time's retelling of Bobby Darin's vibrant career was honored with six nominations; the revival of Gypsy and the brand-new Stranger Things: The First Shadow received five nominations. Operation Mincemeat, which recounts the hilarious and improbable true story of a covert WWII mission, received four nominations. Following a colorful day in Betty Boop's life, BOOP! The Betty Boop Musical was nominated for three awards. Also nominated Thursday morning include Broadway Collection members Real Women Have Curves: The Musical and SMASH, with two nominations each.
New York City visitors from near and far are encouraged to book tickets to these nominated productions and more in advance through a preferred travel provider. For more information on The Broadway Collection, and for the latest Broadway news and tickets, please visit here.
