Olympic Fever in Utah
It's official! Hot on the heels of the success of Paris 2024, Salt Lake City has been selected as the host city for the 2034 Winter Olympic & Paralympic Games. Having hosted the 2002 Games, Salt Lake becomes only the fifth city in the world to host the Winter Olympics twice. A celebration of sport is at a mountain high in the state as this announcement follows the NHL's arrival in Salt Lake City with the Utah Hockey Club (UHC) joining the league beginning October 8, 2024. Visitors can go ice skating or take a curling lesson at the Utah Olympic Oval. And, of course, Utah is scientifically-proven to have the Greatest Snow on Earth® and is home to 15 ski resorts; 10 of which are within an hour's drive of the new SLC International Airport.
Black Desert Resort Previews First Phase
The preview phase of Black Desert Resort, the largest resort development in the state of Utah, will be unveiled on October 16, 2024 following the Black Desert Championship – part of the 2024 FedExCup and historic return of the PGA TOUR to Utah – taking place on the resort's 19-hole Tom Weiskopf-designed championship golf course. Located in St. George, south of Zion National Park and adjacent to Snow Canyon State Park, the resort spans over 240 hectares of scenic desert landscape, red rock cliffs and black lava beds. The resort's grand opening is slated for Spring 2025 with 791 guest rooms and suites, seven food and beverage outlets, a destination spa and wellness centre, 4,180 square metres of indoor/outdoor meeting and event space, heated outdoor infinity pool and hot tub, and access to over 80 hectares of preserved land including 10 km of hiking trails.
Take a Cowboy-cation in Utah
Beyoncé is in her country era and visitors to Utah can be too. The annual Bison Roundup (Oct. 26-Nov. 6, 2024) at Antelope Island State Park, less than one hour from Salt Lake City, is an incredible event to witness as hundreds of horseback riders round up nearly 700 bison – one of the nation's largest and oldest public bison herds – for their yearly health check-up. Open to the public, visitors will have a true Western experience whether participating in the herding as a rider or spectator. Rhodes Valley Outfitters offers guided horseback riding tours of Antelope Island year-round. Utah is also one of the few states in the U.S. where visitors can responsibly view wild horses – 22 herds, in fact!
Park City Goes “Wild” For British Filmmaker, Guy Ritchie
Visitors to Utah know Park City for the skiing and Sundance Film Festival, but there is an incredible food scene that can't be missed. Case in point, renowned British filmmaker, Guy Ritchie, has partnered with The Lodge at Blue Sky to open a second installation of his outpost restaurant, WildKitchen, which is featured in his Netflix hit series, The Gentlemen. Set in a high alpine field overlooking the dramatic landscape of Utah's Wasatch Mountain Range, guest chefs and diners will interact through cuisine touched by smoke and flame, including locally sourced proteins like native Utah trout and seared elk loin and organic produce grown at the resort's own farm. The menu will also be complemented by flights of Ritchie's beer, Gritchie Brew, along with featured wine pairings and signature cocktails. Originally scheduled to be a seasonal pop-up experience, WildKitchen will now stay open permanently, weather-permitting for the winter.
